Web Programming is how interactivity is achieved on the web. It is similar to ordinary programming in other program with a few of its own idiosyncracies. Most of the time when it works users never even realise it's there.

There are many different languages and platforms such as javascript, asp, asp.net, flash, php, python, ruby on rails and java. They all have their pluses and minuses and what you want to do and what your developer already know will dictate which system you use.
