Brave New World anyone?

Without contraception pregnancy is likely to occur willy nilly whenever a man and woman have sex, whether she's too young, too old, not financially stable, not healthy, addicted to drugs whatever. Unlike in some animals our bodies aren't tuned to the seasons waiting for when food is aplenty for females to become fertile and fetuses aren't absorbed into the body when stress is high. Probably because of how long we take to develop human reproductive systems are always ready and able to pop out another one of us at the drop of a hat.
Since the default expected result for sex is pregnancy and given the fact that most of us don't really want to be surprised (oh we'll smile and make the best of it but really we're thinking "Oh crap") by a baby and forced into a 20+ year commitment (if we're doing our job) isn't it better to perhaps find a way to make contraception the default and pregnancy the exception for everyone across the board?
