I am finally a man

New!! See below

I am almost 33 years of age. God when you spell it out like that it really seems awful!! Damn in my head it never quite came across that heavy :P

Ah well, anyway I have now past a milestone in life that I've been avoiding. No it's not buying a car or a house or having a kid but I think it's up there lol. Especially since most people never seem to really prepare for kids, which I think is the most important milestone of all. I mean some of them get books etc but still and that's beside the point.

My milestone is killing another higher order being on purpose, a mouse. Okay so that's not your idea of a milestone well too bad. I've only ever killed insects and spiders on purpose before that I can remember. I've killed lizards and one chicken years ago but it wasn't on purpose. Apparently I held the chicken too tightly and suffocated it.

In the past I haven't even wanted to see a dead mouse, it was too close to home. I mean I can look right at an animal that's been run over but then I didn't do it so I'm okay. I would never have set a trap or picked it up and removed the mouse. It was too real.

I feel like I'm acting like a girl but it's not that I'm scared per say just that I don't like to think of myself as a killer and see myself that way. The last time, kinda like a girl :) I pushed and proded my family until they bought a trap and baited it and caught the mouse. Then I wanted my mom to take care of it lol.

So now I am a man!! I have killed and cleaned the trap and reset it. Last time I almost got him. The trap had a piece of fur in it when I went to check it. The times before he just ate and ran. The this final time it was the end of the road. Poor fella or lady, I wonder how many more are out there?

For the record I may or may not have killed a cat. It's more than 70% likely, higher probably but I'm comfortable with 70%. I came back home to find the neighbours cat flatten where I had driven off from a couple hours before, it was already stiff. It had probably decided to take a nap under the wheel and never had a chance when I drove off. I had to hold it by the tail and put it in a garbage bag. Ewwww!!!

I saw a kitten get run over like that once. The other kittens and mom got away but one "grabbed" the tire or got stuck and rolled with the wheel. I think it's eyes popped out of it's head.

The fact is that this whole mouse thing has been really hard. I'm usually up for anything but now I see how some people feel when they absolutely refuse to do something. It's altogether unusual for me to be in a position like this.

 New!!
It seems that I am indeed a man twice over :) After trapping the first beast I reset the trap because I had glimpsed another animal scurrying away from the scene.
This morning I came across the carcass of the second beast, it's head sliced in half and a swarm of harmless ants feeding on its brains. It was pretty icky but with a wealth of experience in handling such scenes behind me :) I was well prepared to take on the situation. I have reset the trap just in case there are more of the creatures lurking around.
